Thirty Under 30: Lyndsey Seddon, CKBD

Lyndsey Seddon is one of the outstanding young professionals in NKBA’s Thirty Under 30 Class of 2024.

By Donna Heiderstadt

Just three years after the start of her career in the kitchen and bath industry — during which she polished her design, project management and self-taught CAD skills and achieved NKBA’s Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD) certification — Lyndsey Seddon took a bold leap. In 2021, this young woman who grew up fascinated by her family’s construction business but briefly studied for a career in nursing founded her own design firm and showroom, Seddon Design Co., in Pascoag, RI.

Since then, the now 29-year-old has served as the lead designer and specifier for more than 17 new homes in a multimillion-dollar residential development, has completed numerous remodeling jobs and has successfully expanded into larger commercial design projects. Right in the middle of it all, Lyndsey also became a mother. In April 2022, she and her husband welcomed a son.

As one would imagine, maintaining a work-life balance while managing a growing design company and wrangling a toddler isn’t always easy. “Balancing work and home life is an ongoing learning process for me, especially in these early days of my career when it’s easy to get absorbed in work,” said Lyndsey. “I make a conscious effort to step back and savor the magical moments with my family.”

Lyndsey, a member of NKBA’s Northern New England chapter, also finds time for philanthropic efforts, generously donating surplus building materials and cabinetry from her projects to communities in need to actively support zero-waste initiatives. As for her preferred design style, Lyndsey says she gravitates towards a transitional yet timeless look. “I find joy in staying current with the latest trends while appreciating the importance of keeping homes timeless with a hint of trendy or funk,” she noted. “In transitional design, the goal is to strike a balance between traditional and modern elements, creating spaces that feel both timeless and contemporary.”

In fact, from a young age, a significant portion of Lyndsey’s time has been spent in pursuit of design — from painting, adding wallpaper to and rearranging her bedroom furniture as a child to engaging in various home renovation projects with her husband, including an indoor playhouse for their son. Her other passions are cooking and taking long hikes with the family’s German Shepherd, Nala. On her to-do list: Experiencing the world with her family as she seeks to enrich her passion for design. “Traveling allows me to witness diverse design elements and immerse myself in various cultures, serving as a wellspring of inspiration for my work,” she said.
