The NKBA CEU Program

NKBA’s Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Program provides Certified Members and Specialty Badge-holders the opportunity to uphold their learning status through ongoing training.  The NKBA appellations serve as an industry indicator of proficiency, and by continuing the education members can demonstrate their commitment to excellence and proficiency.  By participating in these training sessions, members can instill confidence towards clients and employers.  Accrual of CEUs also aid in the maintenance of NKBA member accreditation. Please e-mail ceu@nkba.org with any questions regarding the program.

If you are interested in partnering with NKBA to become a CEU Provider, please visit the CEU Provider Partner page or email Bob Novellino at ceuprovider@nkba.org.

What is a CEU?

One CEU is equivalent to one hour of training (1 hour = .1 CEU).  CEUs are awarded for participation in formal educational activities with professional associations, business and industry, occupational groups, and academic education.  The programming can be any training, webinar, or meeting, or professional growth opportunity, if it is educational and relevant to the kitchen and bath industry.  Both in-person and virtual events will count.

Why are CEUs required?

The NKBA requires that all certified members earn 2.0 CEUs (20 hours of education) every two years.  This is to ensure our members are keeping up with the rapid changes in our innovative industry and are maintaining an adequate level of knowledge.  The offered CEU opportunities assist members in building consumer confidence and assurance in the Kitchen and Bath industry.

Certified members who do not meet the CEU requirements at the end of the cycle, risk losing their certification and retesting.  The current CEU cycle ends June 30th, 2024.

How Can I Earn CEUs?

Certified members can earn CEUs several ways:

  • CEU Provider Partners: NKBA lists courses from our CEU Provider Partners, which is a program that showcases our education institutes and links them to our certified members.  To view a list of CEU programs, click here.
  • Webinars: The NKBA offers free, on-demand webinars on our website.
  • Chapter Meetings: Members can also earn CEUs through local Chapter meetings, if the meeting contains an educational presentation offered for CEUs.
  • VFTI: NKBA’s Voices From The Industry (VFTI), which is featured annually at KBIS, is another wonderful opportunity to earn CEUs.

Members can also earn CEUs through the following:

How Many CEUs are Required?

Members owe 20 hours (2.0 CEUs) per each 2-year cycle.  The current cycle ends 6/30/2024, so members must self-report their events on NKBA.org.  There are exceptions to the CEU requirement – for example, Retired members owe 10 hours/2-year cycle.  If a member earns a new certification mid-CEU cycle, NKBA will prorate their CEUs appropriately.

Please e-mail ceu@nkba.org if you have any questions about your CEU accrual.

How do I submit my CEUs?

Members must self-report their CEUs to uphold their learning status.  CEUs can be self-reported by logging into your NKBA.org account and visiting this page.  To report the program, we need the event title, date, duration, type, presenter, and a brief description.  The proof of attendance is optional and not required.

If you need assistance logging in, please contact Member Relations at (800) 843-6522 or e-mail info@nkba.org.

When is the CEU Deadline?

The current CEU cycle ends on June 30th, 2024. Members must self-report their required CEU amount by this date, or they risk losing their appellation.

Presentations for NKBA Chapters

NKBA Chapters may invite speakers from any organization to present at their local meetings. To qualify for CEUs, the presentation must pertain to the kitchen and bath industry and be at least one hour in length.  The presenter does not need to be an approved CEU Provider for the course to qualify for CEUs. Members are responsible for submitting their own CEUs via the CEU Reporting Form on NKBA.org.

If a presentation is scheduled for more than one hour (.1 CEU), they must be approved by the NKBA Learning Department four weeks prior to the event date for review.  Please e-mail ceu@nkba.org with any questions.

Chapter Courses for Education Hours

Chapters can submit their own courses to NKBA’s Learning Department for CEU qualification.  NKBA encourages its Chapters to participate in the program and develop their own courses under the Chapter name.  This program is intended for NKBA Chapter use – not for corporate sponsors or professional speakers.

The presenter must be an NKBA member and not a sponsor or other corporate member.  Courses must be submitted by a chapter officer.  The course will run upon NKBA’s approval, and at the end of the course participants will be surveyed.  A minimum score of 4.0/5.0 will allow the course to continue for CEUs.

For more information, please e-mail ceu@nkba.org.
