“Creative Smallness: Thinking Big About Smaller Spaces”

Wednesday, November 13, 2019 @ 5:30pm-8:00pm

Frank Webb Home
6792 Townline Rd
Syracuse, NY 13211

Have you ever had the challenge of designing for a small space? Have you wondered how you will make everything fit, or have you turned down a job thinking it’s impossible to create a beautiful and effective kitchen within a tiny footprint?

With a renewed focus on living sustainably and simplifying our lives, more clients are choosing to renovate small spaces; yet they still want all the amenities of a fully functioning kitchen or bath. Our challenge is to be ready to create real-world solutions, paying attention to the right mix of design and functionality that allows clients to live large in small spaces.

In this session, we will review some examples of successful projects–and some that are not so much–with guidelines for creative strategies for smaller kitchens and baths that walk you through embracing design for smaller projects in a big way. Presented by Tamara Myers, CR, LEED AP; a design and construction expert with over 35 years of experience in the industry.

2018 Vendor Blender and Ann Davis Memorial Award

The Central NY Chapter of the National Kitchen and Bath Association is excited to announce this exciting program. This one day event will be held on March 28, 2018 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Syracuse, NY.

The event will be open to guests from 10 AM to 7 PM. This event will have numerous vendors present, all of whom we can do business with here in our area. This will also be a multiple ceu program day. Attendance to the show and meals are at no charge, though we do need to ask everyone to register for the event on the website. The only fee will be for those wishing to participate in the ceu events. This fee will cover all of the available ceu programs that day, so feel free to participate in as many as you like and complete your ceu needs prior to the June deadline. Most of our ceu events will be approved for AIA, ASID, IIDA, NARI and all will be NKBA approved, so chances are we can meet ceu requirements for almost anyone attending! It looks like we will be having 6-9 total ceu programs available.

This event is also open to the National Association of Home Builders, The American Society of Interior Designers, American Institute of Architects and other professional groups so we are hoping we can grow our relationships with other professional organizations throughout Central NY.

We will be giving this years Ann Demore Davis Memorial Award to an OCC student at this event. Take this opportunity to introduce yourself to the designers of tomorrow!

The Ann Demore Davis Memorial Award which started in 2008, is made in her memory as she was tragically taken from us in 2007 during the height of her career. Ann was a former professional colleague, educator, mentor, board member of the NKBA and cherished friend for over twenty years. Ann was an alumnus of Onondaga Community College and as such we present this award to a deserving OCC student who exemplifies service and scholastic excellence in the pursuit of a career in the kitchen and bathroom design profession.

Fundraising raffles and auctions will be held at this event to benefit the Ann Demore Davis Memorial Award Fund. If you or your company would like to make a contribution to help fund the awards given to the future generation of designers we would love to add you to the events program as a donating sponsor. Be sure to bring a little spending money as there will be some exciting raffles at this event.

Keep tuned for additional information, as it becomes available, and as we finalize the vendor payments to participate we will update our Chapter Website to keep you in the know!

City Sense
127 East Ave
Rochester 14604

The CNY Chapter is proud to announce that we will be hosting Denise Butchko of Butchko Company in Chicago IL. Denise is a highly respected Closet Designer and KBIS Presenter.

Topic: Closet Design Beyond Measure — Walking through a Walk In Closet Design

In this presentation – you’re going to “walk through” the process of designing and selling a walk in closet – because if you’ve already sold the bathroom renovation, why not do the easiest add-on ever and design the closet space?

As a Registered Storage Designer, and judge for the closet industries’ Top Shelf Design Awards, Denise is going to share the thought processes and action steps she goes through in order to effectively design a simple walk in closet space. She’ll also highlight the questions she asks and information she shares that establishes her expertise and allows her to gain the client’s trust, so you can do the same. Incorporating closets into your business is the best add-on product EVER! It’s fun and profitable and can be easy if you know what you’re doing. Denise will teach you that.

Attendees will be able to:

  1. Attendees will gain basic design principles when assessing a Walk In Closet space

Exciting Opportunity!

Attention NKBA Members.

We have an exciting opportunity that we are looking into but we request your feed back. I have been in contact with the NKBA Susquehanna and NY Tri – States Chapters. We are discussing the idea of a joint event held over a few days.

This event would occur in March or April of 2017. We plan to find a central location so that no one is having to travel an extreme distance. The idea is to meet the first day mid afternoon. This evening we would have 2 CEU programs and a dinner. The following day we would have as many vendors as we can get to present their newest products and to answer any questions we may have. During this day we would also arrange a minimum of 6 CEU programs. Of course all CEU programs may not interest everyone and that means there will still be people wandering around the vendor booths, much like you may have seen at a KBIS.

The third and final day – We are also going to try and bring in someone to give a 3-4 hour program which qualifies for Certification Education Hours, for those seeking certification. Of course many of you do not need this event and may leave the night before, or depending on the location enjoy the local attractions. This session would end the event.
