Program Stipulations

Program Submission Guidelines

  • Submit your proposal by July 11, 2025.
  • You may submit up to 3 proposals with different topics.
  • Please choose your format: 1 hour presentation or 1.5 hour workshop.
  • Selected speakers will be notified by August 29, 2025, and present at KBIS 2026 in Orlando, FL, on one of these dates: 2/17/2026, 2/18/2026, or 2/19/2026.
  • Reimbursement for travel, meals, and hotel is not provided.

VFTI presentations are an opportunity to share information. They are not a showcase for a business, service, or product. However, you may leave materials on the registration desk for attendees to pick up if they desire and provide contact information in your presentation

We’re looking for new content, advanced topics, and fresh ideas. We also welcome previous topics with updated information.

Please see detailed descriptions in the Submission Planning Worksheet. You must ensure that your presentation content aligns with one of these tracks. 

Selection Criteria

The NKBA will evaluate all proposals on key elements including:

  • Content relevance
  • Practical applications
  • Delivery methods
  • Variety of speakers
  • Previous evaluations (if applicable)

No more than two submissions will be selected from employees from the same company.

Content Requirements

Program proposals will only be accepted through the online submission form. Please review the requirements carefully and refer to the Submission Planning Worksheet to assist you with your proposal.

All sessions must fall under one of these tracks or topic areas:

  • Building and Remodeling
  • Leadership & Management
  • Design
  • K&B Trends
  • Marketing
  • Technology
  • Sustainability

Proposals must include a title, description, presentation goals and delivery methods. NKBA reserves the right to edit the title and description for length and content.

  • A session must total 60 minutes; please allow time for Q&A within that timeframe.
  • A workshop must total 90 minutes; please allow time for Q&A within that timeframe.
  • A strong proposal will indicate how the attendee will be able to apply your presentation goals practically on the job.

Letter of Agreement

If selected, you and all co-presenters must sign a letter of agreement outlining the full VFTI commitment. 

Use the following as a guide to successfully meet the requirements when submitting your proposal.

Presentation Title

The title should capture attention and give session attendees a clear idea of what the presentation will be about (10-word maximum).

Track

Please choose one of the six categories your presentation falls under.

Building & Remodeling: Today’s design-build process is more in tune with the changing design and construction needs of homeowners and requires designers and their teams to have a high degree of collaboration between themselves and contractors. Discuss resources, before-and-after, trends, specialized markets, decision making, budgets, codes, processes, additions.

Leadership & Management: Discover how the strength of an organization – and its potential to generate revenue – depends greatly on the quality of leadership. Achieve positive business results by managing your resources. Control risk by aligning finance, organizational structure, and marketing initiatives with your business goals. Inspire the best from your team through focusing on principles of effective leadership. 

Design: Explore and create aesthetically pleasing and functional kitchens and baths that incorporate all aspects of design to include lighting, plumbing, cabinet installation and more. Design and plan safe and effective kitchens and baths based on the latest industry standards.

Kitchen & Bath Trends: Embrace future consumer or industry trends, pay attention to demographics, add new tools to your portfolio, and prepare your business for new clients.

Marketing: Market your brand for success by learning about automation, website optimization, targeted content, video, AI, social media and more to align your business for a strong advantage over the competition.

Technology: Discuss how AI and smart home technology are transforming kitchens and baths. Explore innovations in connected appliances, automation, and intelligent design that enhance efficiency, comfort, and user experience.

Sustainability: Sessions highlight sustainable design strategies, innovative materials, and high-efficiency technologies that help designers and manufacturers create environmentally responsible, high-performance kitchen and bath spaces.

Presentation Format

SESSION (1 hour): Mainly lecture format, presentation/class, Q&A at end or during the session. Submit a pre-recorded version for on-demand viewing after KBIS and present live in a conference room during KBIS.

WORKSHOP (1.5 hours): Interactive experience, activities – present live in a conference room during KBIS. Create a product or skill-building, develop strategies, goals, or websites. A more hands-on session may be accomplished by splitting into groups, role playing, etc. There are typically more interactive discussions, handouts or additional materials distributed during workshops, and questions are discussed throughout the session.

Audience Experience Level

Please choose Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced.

Presentation Description

Give a strong and concise description of your presentation. Include what will be covered in the session, why it is an important topic, and how attendees will benefit from attending. (300-word maximum.)

Learning Objectives

In bullet form, list up to three ways attendees will be able to apply your information practically in the real world. What would the goals of this session be? (100-word maximum.)

Examples of methods that best describe how your content will be presented:

  • Case Studies: Delivering research conducted on specific situations of relevance to our industry, showing a relationship between two or more independent factors.
  • Informational: Knowledge presented by an industry expert.
  • Innovation/Trend: Breakthrough approaches and solutions within the kitchen and bath industry.
  • Research: Any other form of study that leads to new findings in the field.
  • Interactive: Engage attendees with a hands-on learning experience. For example, you might want your attendees to work with building materials, colors, samples, or experience something completely new and innovative.
  • Process / Presentation Delivery (300 words max).

SAMPLE SUBMISSION ONE

Presentation Title: Adding Flavor to the Kitchen – Designing Your Kitchen with Color

Topic Area/Track: Design

Presentation Format: Workshop (1.5 hours)

Audience Experience Level: Intermediate

Presentation Description: Now more than ever Color is finding its place in the Kitchen! This session includes subtle and striking ways to incorporate color in your next Kitchen and the importance of it now in Design. This workshop will explore the history of color in the kitchen (where it’s been and where it’s going), how to incorporate color in fun/creative ways, how to empower your client to use color, what lifestyle trends support specific colors and why, and a simple formula for presenting a colorful mood board.

Learning Objectives:

  • Teach participants an easy formula to make a mood board, either online or on paper
  • Teach fun and creative ways to use color in the kitchen
  • Teach where color has been in kitchen design and where it’s trending

Presentation Approach: Interactive

Process/Presentation Delivery: 

  • PowerPoint presentation with videos and an interview embedded in the PowerPoint.
  • Interactive Q & A with audience
  • Hands on workshop and opportunity to create mood boards as part of the presentation with tips, insights and tricks from presenter

SAMPLE SUBMISSION TWO

Presentation Title: Market Analytics to Grow your Design/Build Business

Topic Area/Track: Marketing

Presentation Format:  Session (1 hour)

Audience Experience Level: Intermediate

Presentation Description: Showrooms and Design/Build organizations who use data to identify new and underserved markets win business. In our session, we will show you how to utilize market analytics to isolate targetable areas for remodeling activity at different price points. How to optimize marketing spend and optimize marketing messages to cater to different target markets, will be covered. Set up your showroom to meet the needs/expectations of your target consumer.

Learning Objectives:

  • Assist showroom owners to maximize market efforts
  • Shape growth plans to meet expectations of surrounding consumers
  • Isolate new market segments to increase local market share

Presentation Approach:

Presentation and Interactive

Process/Presentation Delivery:

  • PowerPoint slides will be used with a lecture to cover most of the course content.
  • Group discussion to see what current strategies are being used by attendees. Then we will build upon that information using the sample market data provided in the session.
  • Handouts of the PowerPoint will be distributed so that attendees can take notes on them.

Conference Policies

  • Individuals submitting a proposal must be currently employed within the kitchen & bath industry or a business expert with subject matter relevant to the kitchen & bath industry.
  • Individuals may submit a maximum of three proposals with different topics.
  • Professional audio or video recording of sessions at KBIS is not permitted (KBIS reserves the right to audio and/or video record any session).
  • Voices from the Industry (VFTI) conference speakers will receive a complimentary VIP registration package to KBIS, including a show floor pass, VFTI full conference pass, a ticket to the Industry + Design Awards and a Bash ticket, all valued at over $500. Co-presenter(s) are welcome and must be listed on the submission form. Only two complimentary VIP packages are provided per session/workshop.
  • VFTI Conference speakers will not receive reimbursement for travel expenses or any additional compensation.
  • Please note: VFTI speakers are non-paid. All transportation, lodging and meals are speaker’s own expense.

Distribution of Materials

  • Promoting brand-specific products or the sale of products is prohibited.
  • The speaker may not actively promote or sell their own book, DVD, etc. 
  • Speakers are permitted to share their bio, website, social handles, etc., as part of the presentation. Additionally, they may provide literature (flyers, brochures, handouts, cards, etc.) in the back of the room for attendees to take.

The NKBA recognizes providers of quality continuing education through its Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Program. NKBA-certified members look to CEU-approved presenters to update or broaden their professional knowledge and skills. If your session is chosen, it will be automatically approved for 0.1 or 0.15 NKBA CEU credits. Approval applies to KBIS 2026 only. It cannot be transferred to another venue; credits will be given toward the recorded sessions as well. By offering CEU credit, presenters will attract NKBA-certified members who are looking to increase their knowledge and earn CEUs to maintain their certifications.

Additionally, if you are selected as a VFTI presenter, and hold an NKBA certification, you will earn 0.3 CEU credits per session.

Presenters must meet the NKBA standards for a CEU-worthy session; they must provide at least two to three learning objectives, and the session must total 60 minutes or 90 minutes.

Please remember to allow for 10 to 15 minutes of Q&A time.

Presentations may also be approved for NAHB and/or NARI CEU credits.

Last week, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of NKBA|KBIS at Dacor Kitchen Theater in Irvine, CA. Our spectacular Southern California Chapter came out in full force, and we loved seeing designer members from our San Diego Chapter, too. 

Special thanks to SoCal Chapter President Joseph DeCasperis for being our panelist and sharing kitchen trends and his best of KBIS. Joseph and Rona Graf of Grace Blu Interior Design provided design insights and inspiration. We also presented a sneak peek at NKBA’s brand new Sustainability Research, released earlier this week here to launch NKBA’s Sustainability Month

Speaking of the best of KBIS, we loved being a part of Chicago Mid West’s recent event, Bring KBIS to Chicago! It was wonderful to spend the day with Chicago, as well as Manhattan and Northern California Chapter leaders presenting at the MART as well.

Congratulations to our awesome Arizona Chapter on an incredible 30th Anniversary event in Scottsdale last week! We look forward to seeing and participating in the great things that Arizona – and all of our Chapters – will do in the coming months!

Research

The 2024 NKBA | KBIS Sustainability in Kitchen + Bath Design report, released on April 2,  reveals insights from industry experts on the demand for sustainable design. Despite slower adoption in residential construction, significant growth potential exists. Challenges found include lack of education (51% consider sustainability very important, but only 45% feel very familiar), homeowner buy-in (64%), affordability (54%), and perceived lack of attractive options (44%). Widespread adoption depends on industry education, practical product offerings, and designers promoting environmental stewardship.

NKBA hosts National Volunteer Committees Meetings  

April is a busy month for NKBA National Volunteers! Two out of four National Committees will meet this month for important meetings. The Chapter Leadership Committee (CLC) will meet virtually April 15 to recap KBIS 2024 highlights; review 2024 Chapter Initiative Grants; and discuss CLC outreach to Chapter Presidents. This will be followed by a KBIS Exhibitor Committee (KEC) meeting at the NKBA HQ in Bethlehem, PA, where the six national KEC volunteers will meet with NKBA staff and our partners at Emerald for a KBIS 2024 recap and open discussion on how to continue exceeding expectations for KBIS 2025 and beyond. NKBA is extremely grateful for our national volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to assist our Association and industry with their passion! Want to add to your accomplishments, gain recognition in the kitchen and bath industry, make new connections and teach about a topic you are passionate about? These are just a few of the many benefits you’ll experience when you become a Voices from the Industry (VFTI) Conference speaker. Program proposals open April 10, and will be accepted through June 21.

We invite experienced industry professionals and business experts to submit a proposal for one (or more!) VFTI presentations. We’re looking for inspiring speakers with expertise in the following:

  • Hot Topics – New for 2025!

VFTI caters to a wide array of K&B professionals, including designers, manufacturers, architects, retailers and more. As a VFTI speaker, both you – and your company – will get invaluable exposure and build credibility within the industry. A maximum of two presenters per program receive a complimentary KBIS registration VIP package, which includes an expo pass, VFTI conference access, and event tickets. Presenters are given access to use the speaker ready room and are featured in event marketing materials. After the conference, all presenters are provided with audience feedback about their session, and speakers who are NKBA | KBIS members receive 0.3 CEUs for presenting.

Whether they are looking to become a CKBD or go for the highest level of our industry’s certification, CMKBD, this group of 40 designers will move forward through the process thanks to a generous grant from SKS.

Those who apply must be NKBA | KBIS members. In addition to supporting certification, the grant program will include special events the designers will be invited to attend.

2024 Student Design Symposium 

The event hosted by the NKBA | KBIS Northern California Chapter, offered to students in the U.S. and Canada for the first time, provided opportunities to learn and network.

NKBA | KBIS’ 2024 Student Design Symposium, an annual event held for students virtually on March 8, featured a speaker, information on student member benefits and NKBA | KBIS certifications and badges, educational breakout sessions and networking. Hosted by the NKBA | KBIS Northern California Chapter, the symposium, usually offered only to local students, was offered to students across the U.S. and Canada for the first time.

The event was kicked off by Nureed Saeed, Owner and Creative Director, Nu Interiors, President of the Northern California Chapter and KBB 2023 Person of the Year, who gave a Chapter Statement of Intention, which included the chapter’s 2023 Year in Review.

Next, Jeanne Chung, Owner, Cozy Stylish Chic, and KBB 2022 Person of the Year, gave the keynote address. Her speech focused on the course of her interior design career and advice on how to succeed as a designer, including how to establish credibility and where to go to learn the industry. Educational breakout sessions followed on presenting a portfolio, charting a K&B career path and starting a design business and website.

After attendees returned to the main virtual room, NKBA | KBIS’ Learning Programs Manager, Kelly Ann Ryan, spoke about what it means to be a student member: free membership, opportunities for entering competitions, discounted educational resources and access to online webinars. She also talked through the Ellen Cheever Award, which is currently open for applications until May 3.

Networking breakout sessions followed Ryan’s speech. Once they were back in the main virtual room, NKBA | KBIS’ Sr. Mgr. Learning, Lindsay Franco, presented on NKBA | KBIS Learning Initiatives, such as the Specialty Badge Program and the CKBD certification. She also covered KBIS 2024 promotions, for educators, which included the purchase of any badge credential for only $99 to save $100, a special rate always available to students, and $200 off certification applications made by the end of March. Next, students attended additional breakout sessions on sintered stone, universal design, effective project management and communication with clients and developing a marketing plan.

Next, the 2024 SDS Committee members were shared with the group, including: Gioia Caesarman, Academic Relations, California Capital Chapter; Himangi Garg, Student, Cabot College; Patty Grewell, Design Assistant, Battelle Design; Membership Chair, Cañada College Interior Design Club; Bianca Harangus, Student & Interior Design Club President, West Valley College; Kelly Ann Ryan; Nureed Saeed; Rose Tanjaco, Intentionally Designed Interiors; and Sharon Washington, CKBD, SDS Chair, Eclexis Design & Northern California Chapter.

Looking ahead, the NKBA | KBIS Northern California Chapter will once again offer a national student design symposium supported by NKBA | KBIS, with even more student participation in this educational, interactive event. Students, educators and Chapter Officers will receive information about the next symposium prior to the start of the spring 2025 semester.

The association will introduce the Design Council designers at KBIS 2024 in Las Vegas.

NKBA | KBIS will officially launch its first-ever NKBA Design Council at KBIS 2024 in Las Vegas. The Council will consist of four well-known designers and influencers who will help to elevate the kitchen and bath industry as well as boost awareness for the association.

Bethlehem, PA – (February 5, 2024) —  NKBA | KBIS, the authority on the residential kitchen and bath industry and owners of the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS), will officially launch its first-ever NKBA Design Council this February, at KBIS 2024 in Las Vegas. Featuring industry-leading designers Thom Filicia, Michel Smith Boyd, Caleb Anderson, and Celerie Kemble, the program teams up with illustrious voices to promote the benefits of NKBA | KBIS membership to the nation’s design community. 

NKBA | KBIS is the world’s leading trade association for the kitchen and bath industry, providing tools, research, certification, and events to thousands of industry professionals. The addition of the Design Council offers new perspectives to achieve the association’s mission of raising the level of industry professionalism by inspiring, leading and empowering each member of the kitchen and bath community.

Thom Filicia 

Thom Filicia has emerged as one of today’s most influential and respected interior and product designers. His projects include residential, hospitality and commercial interiors all over the world with clients ranging from Tina Fey, to Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, David & Iman Bowie, and Delta Airlines. Gaining fame on the Emmy-winning “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”, Style Network, HGTV, and most recently Bravo’s Get A Room with Carson & Thom, he is a best-selling author and has been praised as a top designer and international tastemaker. Michel Smith Boyd

Michel Smith Boyd is an American interior designer and star of the hit shows, HGTV’s Luxe for Less, Rock the Block, and Barbie Dream House Challenge as well as Bravo’s Buying it Blind. His Atlanta based firm, Smith Boyd Interiors, is known for Michel’s signature, sumptuous style. Renowned for its distinctive, cultivated, and soulful vibe Michel’s work has received countless accolades including being recognized as one of the Top 10 African American Designers in the country and most recently named The Atlantan’s “Top 50 Most Powerful People.” Boyd prides himself on creating spaces that his clients not only adore but also delight in calling home. Michel’s breadth of influence includes residential and commercial interior design as well as bespoke collections of luxe rugs, artisan case-goods, bold lustrous paintings, and a new collection of fragrances curated for home. Caleb Anderson

Caleb Anderson is a principal at award-winning design firm Drake/Anderson and the co-founder of Well-Designed, a new venture committed to sharing resources and tools to support a happier, healthier and more harmonious design community through meaningful shared experiences. Along with his dedication to creating and fostering

more opportunities for authentic connection and sustainable work practices among his peers, Anderson is using his design expertise to heighten awareness within the community around healthy materials, sustainability and social consciousness.

Celerie Kemble 

Celerie Kemble’s priority is always to express the personality and sentiment of her clients through gracious interiors. Never one to dismiss nuance or drama, Celerie seamlessly engages both forces to create dynamic and comfortable rooms. Kemble Interiors is a multi-generational firm with over 50 years of experience designing hotels, country clubs, and residential spaces, and has offices in both New York and Palm Beach. Celerie received a B.A. in English from Harvard and lives in New York City with her three children. Monogram Series Wins Daytime Emmy: Luxury appliance brand Monogram earned a Daytime Emmy award for its digital series “My Mark” featuring acclaimed chef Marcus Samuelson. The series celebrates individuals who use their passions to “elevate experiences.” Samuelson, recorded in his home kitchen in Sag Harbor, NY, was chosen for his dedication to culinary excellence and passion for mastering cooking techniques, which he spotlights using Monogram appliances. Kohler Unveils SR_A Line: Kohler Co. introduced its groundbreaking Kohler x SR_A bath faucet at the recent Design Miami expo. Formation 01 is the inaugural product collaboration between the plumbing giant and the industrial design studio of Samuel Ross. Bertazzoni Opens Design Center in Canada: Bertazzoni, the Guastalla, Italy-based family-owned premium appliance maker, has opened a 428-square-foot design center with its exclusive Canadian distribution partner, Distinctive, at Trail Appliances in Vancouver. “Casa Bertazzoni” is modeled after the original experience and design center in Italy and designed by Vancouver-based Sarah Gallop. It is the brand’s fifth Design Center and features working kitchen vignettes that showcase the appliances through cooking demonstrations and hands-on experiences. Learn more here.

Miele To Build in Alabama: Premium appliance maker Miele has finalized the location of its first American manufacturing plant, in Opelika, AL. The facility is expected to come online by the end of 2024 and employ 150 workers in its first phase of operations, which will initially focus on ovens and ranges.  Miele said delivery time will be slashed from up to 10 weeks to just a few days, with many of the parts and raw materials also being sourced locally to reduce CO2 emissions. Including the new plant, Gütersloh, the Germany-basedcompany’s international production network will include a total of 16 locations: eight in Germany and one each in Austria, China, the Czech Republic, Romania, Poland and the U.S.  Read more here.

Countertops in Chicago: The Chicago Mid West Chapter will host “Countertop Chronicles: Unveiling Surface Secrets,” a seminar designed to answer any question about counters and surfaces, on Jan. 23, 5 pm to 8 pm, at Starved Rock Wood Products, 1170 Milwaukee Avenue, Glenview, IL. Chapter president Denise Butchko will be joined by Mitch Gomes, sales director of MSI Surfaces, and Gina Saran, owner of Precision Stone Design, for the discussion, followed by a showroom tour, chef demo, food and drinks. Millennials Want Houses: Despite the stereotype that Millennials prefer “experiences” to “things,” a nationwide survey found that 89.5 percent of 25-to-44 year-olds say owning a home is a part of their American dream, and fewer than 1 percent say home ownership is not important to them. Cleveland-based marketing and research firm Falls & Co. found that 76 percent prefer a single family home compared to 3.6 percent who would choose a condo. Only 16 percent are interested in a fixer-upper, while 13 percent prefer to buy new and 32 percent want a move-in-ready home. Topping the list of potential home improvements were the living room/great room, cited by 52.5 percent, and the kitchen, at 48.4 percent. Learn more here.

Wellness design consultant and award-winning author Jamie Gold, CKD, CAPS, MCCWC, has published a bonus chapter to her 2020 book Wellness by Design (Simon & Schuster) focused on healthy living in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and some of the worst natural disasters in history. The chapter, “Lessons for How We Live Now,” offers tips on making homes resilient against storms, wildfires and power outages, information on what new technologies and artificial intelligence can mean for our homes and much more. Year In Review: Milestones

2023 was full of important milestones, from the Mid Atlantic Chapter’s 60th Anniversary to the remembrance of industry leaders who passed away.

2023 was a momentous year at NKBA. The association celebrated 60 years in the industry, multiple member companies and individual members achieved 60- and 25-year milestones, and several important figures from the kitchen and bath industry left us too soon. As we look back on 2023, here are some of the most important milestones:

In Memoriam

The industry lost several NKBA members and influential kitchen and bath figures in 2023. 

Stephen “Mac” McDonald, a leading kitchen and bath industry figure, founder of Thurston Kitchen and Bath and longtime NKBA member, passed away on Jan. 23. After the founding of his company Thurston Kitchen and Bath in 1977, it and its subsidiaries grew to over 18 locations throughout Colorado, Utah and New Mexico. In Colorado, Mac was widely recognized as one of the leading figures in the regional kitchen and bath industry throughout his long and distinguished career. Ric Coggins, NKBA Chapter and National Leader who held multiple local and national posts, passed away on Jan. 31. Ric actively served in the NKBA since 2004 and was considered one of the Arizona Chapter’s greatest contributors. He also held several national positions, including various positions on the national advisory council, and in 2014 was elected to NKBA’s Executive Committee as National Vice President. After retiring, Ric remained very active in the Arizona Chapter, where he served as a consultant. He was involved in multiple aspects of the kitchen bath and home industry, including design, sales and marketing, for 49 years. Read Ric Coggins’ NKBA obituary here.

Bill Oesterle, the Co-founder and former CEO of Angie’s List, passed away on May 10. Oesterle co-founded Angie’s List in 1995 with Angie Hicks, currently the Chief Customer Officer of Angi Homeservices Inc., a Denver-based service that connects consumers with personalized solutions, service pros, and “fair and transparent pricing” for everything from house cleaning to major remodels. Oesterle became CEO of Angie’s in 1999 and during his tenure until his resignation in 2015, the company evolved from a hyperlocal business to a nationwide service with millions of subscribers. Charlotte Ann Breidenstein, a former NKBA staff member who worked with the association for 28 years, passed away in December. Prior to her retirement in 2012,, Charlotte helped to develop NKBA’s Governance, Education and Conference Departments. To read Charlotte Ann Breidenstein’s NKBA obituary, go here.

60 Year Milestone: the NKBA Mid Atlantic Chapter

The Mid Atlantic Chapter celebrated a significant occasion in 2023: just like the association itself, they celebrated their 60 year anniversary — being the founding chapter of NKBA! The chapter commemorated their special day with the association, throwing a Garden Party as one of the NKBA 60th Anniversary celebrations last year at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey. More than 50 members came to the Mid Atlantic event to reminisce and celebrate not only NKBA’s 60th Anniversary, but the Mid Atlantic Chapter’s anniversary as well. 60 Year Milestone: Bradley Berkoff

Bradley Berkoff, CKD, a South Florida Chapter member, celebrated 60 years as an NKBA member in 2023. A kitchen and bath designer, he joined the association at its start — and has been with NKBA since then.

25 Year Milestones: Companies

60 Years of NKBA

The association itself reached a significant milestone in 2023: its 60th Anniversary! Starting off with ’60s-themed activations and a toast at the start of the year at KBIS in Las Vegas, the celebration continued throughout the year, with various chapters commemorating NKBA’s 60 years of leadership in the kitchen and bath industry. 60th anniversary chapter events include the SKS-sponsored Puget Sound and Olympic – West Sound, Northern New England, Northern California and Manhattan chapters’ events; Dacor-sponsored Manhattan Chapter event; and the Mid Atlantic and Georgia chapters’ events, which were not sponsored. The festivities will continue in2024 with the Southern California Chapter’s event, sponsored by Dacor, as well as events held by the Baltimore/Washington Chapter and the Chicago Chapter.

Gaggenau Opens Flagships: Luxury German appliance maker Gaggenau has unveiled new experiential showcases in Miami and Sydney, Australia. The flagship showrooms, located in Miami’s Design District and Sydney’s tony Surry Hills cultural and culinary neighborhood, feature interactive displays of appliances including the 400 series, and are designed to host events, offer product demonstrations and spotlight local foods, wines and artists. Strasser, Grubb in Deal: Strasser, the Woodinville, WA-based maker of luxury vanities, is introducing the Christopher Grubb Collection of architecturally inspired bath vanities in the first quarter of the year. Beverly Hills-based interior designer Christopher Grubb, principal of Arch-Interiors Design Group and a member of NKBA’s Southern California Chapter, designed two groups for the launch — Aldaire and Colville — both featuring clean lines and minimalist style. Aldaire features metal accents and is available in wall-mount and furniture styles, while Colville is wall-mounted. Both contemporary collections include customizable options such as mirrors, built-in outlets and a selection of counters and coordinating hardware and sinks, and expand upon Strasser’s more traditional and transitional groupings. SieMatic Introduces Handle-Free Design: German cabinetry maker SieMatic’s new handle-free S2 Kitchen features clever “hidden” concepts designed to refine and add function to its cabinetry solutions. “Secret Service” is a 3.5 cm slim drawer that’s completely hidden within a sculpted recessed channel and offers a push-to-open mechanism. “Secret Space” is available for base and tall corner units with a rotating feature that spins to reveal elegant shelves for hidden storage or may be left open for display. Existing Home Sales Edge Up: Sales of existing homes rose slightly in November, edging up 0.8 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 3.82 million, snapping a five-month downward trend, according to the National Association of Realtors®. There were down, however, by 7.3 percent from a year ago. The median sales price for an existing home jumped 4 percent from November 2022 to $387,600, marking five straight months of YOY increases. Happy New Year! Welcome to our new and returning 2024 Chapter Officers – we look forward to a successful year with you all.

To start the New Year, please take a moment to update your NKBA Member Profile here, including your contact info and company information. This is your K+B calling card! And importantly, it’s time to submit your 2023 Annual Finance Report here and Chapter Initiative Grant here before January 31.

In addition to welcoming our 350 Chapter Officers, we are excited to announce our 2024 Chapter Leadership Committee (CLC). Our CLC serves as a vital link between you, our Chapter Officers, the full-time NKBA staff, and NKBA Board of Directors. 

Our three returning members are Nichole Cooper (Southern California), Sandee Mann (British Columbia) and Julie Schuster (Manhattan), and we are excited to welcome two incoming members, Kimberly Kerl (Piedmont Blue Ridge Carolina) and Brianna Weiler (Mid-Atlantic). Special thanks again to our outgoing CLC members Ellen Lopez, CMKBD (Metro New York) and Nancy Young, CKBD (Alabama). If you would like to serve on a future CLC, please be on the lookout in September for NKBA’s call for CLC self-nominations. Applicants must be either a current Chapter Officer or have served a full term within the last two years.

NKBA wrapped up a fantastic 60th anniversary year last month at the SKS Skyline Showroom at LG’s Innovation Campus in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Our Metro New York and Northern New Jersey Chapters celebrated and enjoyed a celebrity mixologist and creative chef demonstration, followed by “Kitchen Trends” with NKBA’s Pamela McNally. The celebrations continue in two weeks, when we’ll toast NKBA’s 60th with the Baltimore/Washington Chapter. 

There’s so much to look forward to this month and in February, which kicks off with our Chapter Officer Training virtual sessions, February 5-9. This is followed by our in-person Leader2Leader program at KBIS on Monday, February 26 in Las Vegas.
