Thirty Under 30: Sami Spurr

Sami Spurr has been captivated by residential design from a young age. Not only did her dad own an electrical company, which exposed her to new builds, renovations, and luxury projects, but her parents also built their own dream home when she was a kid. “Being involved in that and seeing the progression of the build along with what they created was inspiring,” she says. “The house was beautiful, well-designed, and I still think about it all the time when I’m working on my own projects!” 

Now as Owner and Principal Interior Designer at Whitehouse Station, NJ-based SNS Interiors,  the design firm she founded in March 2023, Sami is known for her positive energy, creativity, refined perspective, and understanding of spatial planning — all qualities that help her excel in residential design. And she still gets a thrill from being in the middle of a build. “I love getting to see the progress of my projects when I’m on site,” explains 27-year-old Sami. “It’s so exciting getting to see your vision come to life. It’s a feeling that can’t be replaced.”

Her most memorable project? A full-home gut renovation completed during her first year in business. “It was the first time I was able to show everyone what I could truly do with design,” recalls Sami, who describes herself as “passionate” and says she has an affinity for modern design with rich textures, various materials, metals and patterns, and statement pieces.

Other early clues to Sami’s creativity were her childhood hobbies, which included rearranging her bedroom in the middle of the night every few months, much to the surprise of her parents. She also dabbled in crafts such as sewing, knitting, and painting. “For a few years, I made artwork and sold it,” she says. “Growing up, I was always trying new ways of creating art. All along though, I knew Interior Design was my end-goal.” 

Sami met that goal by earning her Interior Design degree from High Point University in North Carolina and by starting her own design business before she turned 25 — a moment she calls her proudest accomplishment. Her current challenge: Growing that business while nurturing her relationship with her boyfriend of four years, Marco. “Achieving a work-life balance is a work in progress and a continuous battle since I’m working towards so many goals for myself,” she explains, including one day designing and building her own home. “It’s something I still need to perfect, however, I truly try to ‘clock out’ on weekends and put my phone on do not disturb to be able to enjoy time with family, friends, and my boyfriend.” 

Sami, who is also a dog mom to a German Shepard named Wolfe, enthusiastically admits that her childhood penchant for changing things up is still something she embraces to this day. “I’m always rearranging and trying to make my home different and better — fresh and new,” she says.
