What You Will Learn
Wood is often considered when selecting a kitchen countertop or island, but its possibilities extend throughout the entire project. This webinar will explore how wood can be used as a unifying design element across architectural details, stair components, floating shelves, vanities, tables, desks, and other custom applications.
Through real-world examples, attendees will discover how repetition, contrast, species selection, grain orientation, construction style, finish, and scale can establish continuity between spaces while allowing each application to serve a distinct purpose. The presentation will also address practical considerations such as durability, moisture exposure, structural support, wood movement, fabrication, installation, and coordination with surrounding materials. Attendees will leave with a broader understanding of where wood can be incorporated and how to specify it successfully across a cohesive residential project.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify opportunities to incorporate wood beyond countertops through architectural elements, stair components, floating shelves, vanities, furniture, and other custom applications.
- Evaluate how wood species, grain construction, grain direction, thickness, edge profile, and finish influence the appearance, performance, and suitability of wood for different locations and uses.
- Apply key technical considerations including structural support, moisture exposure, wood movement, fabrication, installation, and coordination with adjacent materials when specifying wood elements throughout a residential or commercial project.
