Thirty Under 30: Laura Honors

Laura Honors, Creative Director and Principal Designer at Bradenton, FL-based Honors Interiors, created a seven-figure design company within two years of its launch. How did she do it? By embracing a concept of home remodeling that is approachable yet meticulous and by holding her crews to the highest luxury standards to ensure that results exceed clients’ expectations.

Originally from Toronto, Laura, who recently turned 30, started in the business as a teenager laying tile for her father’s company. Pairing a Master’s degree in Business with design training from multiple programs, she founded her company in 2018 and launched her full-service design studio in 2021. Building on her construction, design, and project management expertise in full-gut remodels, with a specialization in kitchen and baths, she now oversees a team of six designers and support staff and operates both a design studio and private warehouse.

Her successful strategy? Providing turnkey renovations, many of them for out-of-state owners buying or remodeling second or third homes in some of the most prestigious areas on Florida’s Gulf Coast. She typically leads 14 to 20 full-home renovations at a time and her modern coastal aesthetic balances clean lines, layered textures, and sun-washed palettes to create interiors that feel both elevated and effortless. “I love the concept of spaces that make people feel inspired, calm and secure,” says Laura. “Changing someone’s environment completely changes their life. I love working for people who are buying their vacation homes in Florida because you end up getting to be a part of someone’s biggest dreams in life.” 

Currently, Laura has a project in the residences at the St. Regis Longboat Key — something she says she couldn’t have even imagined when she began her business. “It truly feels like living inside the dream I once hoped for,” she says. To date, her work has been featured in Home & Design Sun Coast Magazine and Florida Design Sarasota Magazine.

Laura says “visionary” is the word that best describes her. “It feels a little overt to say that about myself,” she admits, “but I don’t just design beautiful spaces, I envision experiences, build brands, and create opportunities not only for my clients but for my team and future entrepreneurs as well.” As for her own preferred design style, Laura favors a Post-Modern aesthetic. “My personal home has hints of mid-century design, warm woods, and fun pops of color,” she says. “Some antiques, but still clean lines and minimalist.”  Laura shares the home with her Honors Interiors co-founder and husband, Solomon, and their four-year-old son. “If I’m not working, I’m being the best mom I can be,” she adds.

Laura’s list of future must-do’s includes earning Honors Interiors national recognition, launching a mentorship and investment brand, writing a book, building her own signature coastal property portfolio, teaching her son the art of building, and earning a feature in Architectural Digest, House Beautiful, or even a Netflix or HBO design docuseries that showcases her family-run business. This visionary also envisions taking an extended sabbatical abroad with her family to focus on “slowing down, finding inspiration in new surroundings, and experiencing a different culture to bring fresh energy and perspective back to our life and work.”
