With Carolina Membership Chair Carol Schuster, Business Development Representative at Harkey Tile & Stone.
As the world’s leading trade organization for the K&B industry, NKBA | KBIS informs, inspires, and empowers its members. And it is our Chapter Membership Chairs that are vital to the important mission of connecting and growing the Association. In our ongoing series on the winning strategies that build membership, we are spotlighting these chapter officers and sharing their unique ideas on attracting new members while keeping current members actively engaged with innovative campaigns and illuminating programs.
“Our most successful membership drive is the NKBA Carolina Game Night in August. The second annual one was just held on August 15 at Harkey Tile & Stone in Charlotte, North Carolina. There are lots of raffle prizes, for all participants, that are donated by members sharing and spreading their brand with industry friends. Everyone comes out and brings a guest.
I believe the event is a success due to its timing. We hold it during the part of the year when many parents are sending their kids off to college, and it seems like the adults want to have a rendezvous and let their competitive streak loose. It’s an evening of fun tailgate games including beer pong, flippy cup, Jenga Giant, and more–and you’re encouraged to wear your favorite team gear.
As a board, we meet, plan, gather raffle prizes, and get the word out by working it. Members can bring one non-member guest for free, and I follow up with an email to all guests and invite them to join our local chapter. Everyone comes out, everyone has fun, and we gain new members. They can’t say no!”
