What You Will Learn

As the baby boomer generation ages, there is a growing demand for homes that can accommodate their changing needs while allowing them to maintain an active and independent lifestyle. This presentation will explore the latest trends and best practices in designing kitchens and bathrooms that cater to the unique needs of this demographic.

Drawing from my expertise as an occupational therapist and as a certified aging in place specialist, and Universal Design expert, I will provide attendees with valuable insights into the physical, cognitive, and sensory changes that accompany aging. I will discuss how these changes can impact the way individuals interact with their living spaces, and how thoughtful design can enhance safety, accessibility, and comfort without compromising on style and functionality. Designers will gain valuable insights into the unique needs and preferences of the active aging population.

They will learn how to create beautiful, functional, and accessible spaces that not only meet the current needs of their clients but also anticipate and accommodate their future requirements.

Learning Objectives:

  • Create functional and stylish kitchens and bathrooms that accommodate the changing needs of baby boomers.
  • Enhance their expertise in aging in place design, allowing them to better serve this growing market segment.
  • Balance safety and accessibility with aesthetic considerations in their designs for active aging clients.
