What You Will Learn
This webinar will introduce you to working with SketchUp to create professional and detailed bathroom designs complete with renderings and technical drawings. SketchUp can be utilized as a stand-alone program and also has the ability to interface with many other design programs to import/export files.
As a prerequisite, you will want to be familiar with the general functionality of SketchUp and how to draw basic shapes in the program; if needed, there are some great “getting started with SketchUp” courses on YouTube to get you up to speed prior to this session.
Everything we will cover can be done without purchasing paid SketchUp extensions (add-on programs that upgrade features and functionality). After you are familiar with the basics, you may be interested in exploring some extensions that will make your workflow easier and faster.
We will, however, introduce a few free extensions that are universally useful and simple to integrate. In general, though, we’ll just stick with the standard toolchain to get you up and running.
During this session, you will:
- Create a room: walls, windows, doors, floor, and ceiling
- Place cabinetry, fixtures, accessories, and other objects
- Generate and apply custom finishes and tile designs
Here’s what you will know how to do in SketchUp after the session:
• Create a room: walls, windows, doors, floor, and ceiling
• Place cabinetry and fixtures in a room
• Utilize the SketchUp warehouse to source objects
• Select and assign textures and materials
• Generate and apply custom tile designs
• Add countertop, backsplash, accessories, and other finishing touches
• Transfer design files to “Layout” to generate technical drawing and place renderings on title block
• Add dimensions and notations in “Layout” to complete the drawing set

Betsy Miller, CKD – Owner & Principal Designer – Function First Design
Betsy has been working in the kitchen and bath industry since 2004. She spent the first part of her career in the Midwest then went on to work in the Seattle market where she hit her stride designing sleek, sophisticated, and creatively functional spaces. Now based in Las Vegas, NV, she takes on projects remotely throughout the country.
In addition to working with homeowners directly, she also does consulting work with cabinet shops and other design firms to produce renderings and technical drawings. With a knack for detail and concise communication on drawings, she has been able to help trade partners streamline their documentation process from concept to installation.
In years past, she has shared her knowledge by teaching college design students participating in the Kitchen and Bath Certificate program. She also (currently) teaches private lessons to help designers strengthen their drafting and rendering skills.
