The Evolving Home: Multi-Generational Living and Flexible Spaces for Modern Life
The concept of “home” has undergone a huge transformation, starting in the 1970s but accelerated more recently with today’s technology and our changing needs after the pandemic. This an exciting time for the design industry. The Evolving Home: Multi-Generational Living and Flexible Spaces for Modern Life seminar will explore these significant changes and their impact on kitchen and bath design.
For example, people are still working at home, part of the time or full-time. Families also fell in love with the comfort of staying at home for activities that used to mean an outing, like getting spa treatments or eating an exceptional meal. Major shifts in bath and kitchen design have come out as a result, and manufacturers have risen to the occasion, too. With more specific kitchen appliances than ever, and with more accessible spa-grade materials and luxuries for the bathroom, this seminar delves into the “new home’s” new views on flexible and personalized spaces.
Multi-generational living is a new part of the picture, too. Families are increasingly opting for multi-generational homes, where grandparents, parents, and children share a living space. This trend presents unique design challenges and opportunities, requiring us to think creatively about privacy, accessibility, and shared spaces that cater to different age groups and lifestyles, especially in the kitchen and bathroom.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn strategies for creating flexible kitchen and bath spaces that can adapt to various functions and user needs.
- Explore trends in personalized kitchen and bath design, focusing on customization and high-performance features.
- Understand the principles of designing multi-generational kitchens and bathrooms that combine accessibility with elegance.
