Design Inspiration Meets Relaxation
What could be better than connecting with fellow chapter members and earning CEUs while having a massage?
That was the smart thinking behind our Arizona Chapter’s first-ever wellness event hosted at Central Arizona Supply, also an NKBA member.
Central’s Leah Davis came up with the idea since sponsors Viking and BainUltra have a wellness line. The event drew around 35 people who feasted on nibbles and juices by Picazzo’s Healthy Italian Kitchen.
Paula Kennedy introduced “hygge” (pronounced “hoo-gah”), a Danish and Norwegian concept that means creating a warm, cozy atmosphere and enjoying the quiet, simple pleasures of life with people you love.
“Paula walked us through the five elements (earth, fire, air, water, wood) and how they impact our everyday lives,” said Arizona Programs Chair Shaunna Cooper. “I learned about ways to create hygge within my own homes and how to suggest options for clients as we create thoughtful wellness spaces designed for how people live.”
The event was held at Central’s newest showroom in Gilbert and drew 36 attendees, a great turnout given that the chapter typically holds events in Scottsdale. Promotion for the event included direct mailers to local architects and designers, another smart move.
“Trying a different location was good, because we were able to get new people who wouldn’t normally drive to Scottsdale,” said Shaunna.
Event registration was free and there was the option to purchase raffle tickets to win two spa gift cards.
