The NKBA’s annual competition throws open an exclusive platform for member designers, as well as builders/remodelers to showcase their expertise in kitchen and bath design and benefit from nationwide industry and media recognition.

Only NKBA members are eligible. Click here if you would like to join today.

What do you have to gain?

National media attention, special awards and cash prizes presented during a special ceremony at KBIS 2019 in Las Vegas, industry recognition, your design(s) featured in NKBA Magazine, on NKBA.org, and in the NKBA Booth at KBIS 2019.

What’s needed?

A project installed between January 1, 2017 and July 2, 2018, clear photos, a concise design statement, elevations and a floor plan to scale, and a completed entry form. The 2019 NKBA Design Competition Entry Packet provides comprehensive information on the entry process as well as competition rules & requirements.

Here is a checklist of items that are needed with each submission:

-Identify One (1) Winning Photo

– Floor Plans and Elevations
– Photos (up to 10 including before and after)
– Headshots
– Bio
– Project Specification Form
– Client Property Release

What’s the Deadline?

All entry packets must be received at the NKBA Headquarters by Monday, July 2, 2018.

Categories

Please indicate the appropriate Category for your entry on the online entry form.

The competition is divided into the following eleven main categories. Select the category that best characterizes your design(s).

  • Small Kitchen (less than 150 sq. ft.)
  • Medium Kitchen (150-350 sq. ft.)
  • Large Luxury Kitchen (more than 350 sq. ft. and over $100,000)
  • Powder Room (must contain a sink and a toilet, no tub or shower)
  • Small Bathroom (less than 55 sq. ft.)
  • Large Luxury Bathroom (more than 55 sq. ft. and over $45,000)
  • Outdoor Kitchens (Min. 200sq ft.): $2,000 *
  • Large Budget-Friendly Kitchen ($100,000 or less): $2,000 *
  • Large Budget-Friendly Bathroom ($45,000 or less): $2,000 *
  • Concept Kitchen: $2,000*
  • Concept Bathroom: $2,000*

*Categories are 1st place only ($2,000) and will be judged for best overall categories ($10,000 kitchen and $10,000 bath).

Note:

  • Open plan kitchens should be entered into an appropriate kitchen category, based on sq. footage.
  • While calculating sq. footage for kitchens, cook, prep and clean-up areas, family desk, casual built-in dining, island dining, and eat-in areas should be included where applicable.
  • Master bathrooms should be entered into an appropriate bathroom category, based on sq. footage.
  • While calculating sq. footage for bathrooms, water closet, vanity, and areas for bathing, shower, closet and dressing should be included where applicable.
  • Projects may be moved to an alternate category, as deemed appropriate by the judging panel.

Category Awards

  • First Place: $3,000
  • Second Place: $2,000
  • Third Place: $1,000

Specialty Awards

  • Best Kitchen: $10,000
  • Best Bath: $10,000
  • Universal Design (Kitchen or Bath): $2,000 *

Honorary Awards

To be considered for the Builder/Remodeler Award – In honor of Clay Lyon, CR, 2012 include the following information on your online entry form:

  • Select Builder/Remodeler on the entry form for an automatic consideration
  • Select that the project is rich in age and character on the entry form and explain the details in the Design Statement
