Thirty Under 30: Megan Schoenwetter
Megan Schoenwetter is one of the outstanding young professionals in NKBA’s Thirty Under 30 Class of 2025.
By Donna Heiderstadt
From the small town of Beaver Dam to the college town of Madison, Wisconsin native Megan Schoenwetter channeled her intuitive creativity by majoring in interior design at Madison College and then honing her skills during eight years at Marling Lumber and Homeworks, where she is currently Lead Interior Designer. Now 30, she counts among her recent accomplishments being featured on the local news for designing all of the cabinetry for a house in the 2023 parade of homes — a feat she could only imagine two decades earlier when a grade school art class project to create a blueprint of her dream home sparked her obsession with design.
Megan, who describes herself as “passionate,” attributes her success to being confident in herself and what she does. “If I didn’t have the confidence my customers wouldn’t trust me,” she explains. “Always putting my customers first and being a good listener goes a long way and creates respect in the relationship.”
Her design style leans to transitional — “the perfect mix of traditional elegance with a touch of contemporary” — and she is currently In the process of earning CKBD certification. Megan also serves as Membership Chair of NKBA’s WI/Upper Michigan Chapter and is involved in other local organizations with a goal of networking and creating lifelong relationships. “This industry is very rewarding and full of empowered colleagues to lean on whenever we may need a hand,” she says.

Maintaining an effective work-life balance is definitely vital these days since Megan and her boyfriend, Nate, are expecting a baby girl in early April. “I balance my work and personal life by setting boundaries between the two,” she says. “Taking time for myself to enjoy the things I love doing, effective communication, and an organized schedule all play huge roles as well.”
This busy mom-to-be can also rely on cuddles from her Aussiedoodle, Khloe, when she’s not reading a good love story or decorating her home for all of the seasons. Travel is also a favorite pastime, and she especially enjoys the exceptional scenery of Hawaii. One of her life goals is to visit all 50 U.S. states — and she’s well on her way, having already checked off 18.
