Chapters and individuals win recognition and cash prizes for outstanding performance. By Dianne M. Pogoda

NKBA’s network of 70  Chapters represents the bedrock of the entire national organization, and without the tireless efforts of a legion of volunteers, from officers to committee members and general membership, the Association would not have the reach, recognition and respect from the industry that it enjoys today.

Chapter Star Award nominations are open for the full month of October. These awards recognize the hard work and creativity of our volunteers at the chapter officer level, and acknowledge innovation and success in membership drives, fundraising and other campaigns and events. Please take a moment to nominate an outstanding officer or program by clicking here. Winners will be announced at Chapter Officer Training at KBIS in Las Vegas, on Monday, Jan. 20, the day before the expo opens on Jan. 21.

The program recognizes outstanding Chapter achievement for the following efforts, each earning a $1,500 prize:

  • Best New Member Campaign;
  • Best Chapter Program;
  • Best Chapter Fundraiser Event;
  • Best Chapter Design Competition;
  • Best Student-Focused Program
  • Best NKBA-Themed Event.

Additionally, individual prizes of $500 are awarded for the Best Chapter Officer —  one prize per officer position — and Best Committee Member. The Grand Prize is the Chapter Officer of the Year, chosen from among the best officer winners, and includes a $2,000 prize.

This year, NKBA has made a special change to the Grand Prize award, renaming it the Denise Dick Chapter Officer of the Year, in honor of one of its longtime esteemed members, Denise Dick, CMKBD. Denise, known as Dee, died suddenly, right before KBIS this past February, at age 57. She was the owner and principal designer of Signature Kitchens By Design in Carrollton, Texas, and was a devoted and active member of the Association at the local and national levels. Denise served on the Chapter Council for the Texas North Plains Chapter, and on the NKBA Board of Directors. Not only was she a dedicated NKBA volunteer, but she was also active in her community, and a role model to many.

Denise’s husband, Eric Dick, is expected to be on hand to present this award.

Deadline for nominations for all Chapter Star honors is Oct. 31. It’s a wonderful way to acknowledge and thank the people, committees and chapters who make a difference in the organization and the industry.
