On-Line Course FAQs
Century College provides online kitchen and bath design courses.
Q: How do online courses work?
A: Online courses are a great instruction vehicle for many busy professionals since you can access your course at any time of the day or night.
Your lessons and instructions will be available to you over the Internet by logging into a course site provided by Century College. Your instructor will post lessons, discussion, and assignments to be completed weekly.
Q: How often do I have to log in?
A: Lessons and assignments are posted weekly. You will need to log in at least once a week; most people log in several times a week. You should also check your email regularly for messages from your instructor.
Q: Do I have to be online at a specific day and time each week?
A: For KBD 1-6, the answer is no. These courses are asynchronous, meaning that students and instructors do not log in and participate simultaneously. You may log in to retrieve lessons and assignments whenever it is most convenient for you.
For AKBD exam prep, there is a weekly live seminar. You are encouraged, but not required, to attend; the seminars will be recorded. Links to the recordings will be posted on the course website so that you may review the seminar at your convenience.
Q: What if I have to be out of town for a period of time?
A: Let the instructor know ahead of time, and then allow time to make up your work when you return.
Q: How many hours per week should I expect to spend on one of these courses?
A: You should expect to spend 5-10 hours per week for lab courses (Presentation Standards, Basic Kitchen and Bath Design, Advanced Kitchen and Bath Design) and 3-6 hours per week for other classes (Construction and Mechanical Systems, Lighting, and Business Practices).
The AKBD prep course requires significant review of the nine texts in the NKBA Professional Resource Library.
Q: Is my computer ready for these courses?
A: You can run a system check at here.
Q: How do I get log-in and password information?
A: Shortly before the start of the course, you will receive an email from Century College with your log-in name and password, as well as instructions for accessing the course.
Q: What else do I need for these courses?
A: Certain supplies are needed for lab courses (Presentation Standards, Basic Kitchen and Bath Design, Advanced Kitchen and Bath Design). You will receive a list of these supplies.
You will need to purchase specific books from the NKBA Professional Resource Library for each course. These books are ordered directly from the NKBA.
You will receive a packet in the mail containing a CD with lessons and handouts. Note that the CD contains intellectual property of Century College; no part of the content may be used for any other purpose.
Q: How do these courses prepare me for NKBA Certification?
A: Course content is aligned with NKBA certification exam content. For specifics, please contact Arlynne Wolf at Century College at
