The NKBA:
Sustaining Our Industry and The Environment

As the 2008 President of the National Kitchen & Bath Association, I'm proud to announce that the NKBA is striving to become a primary force in the field of sustainability, also known as green design. With global warming weighing on people's minds, the NKBA and its members will continue to increase its focus on environmentally friendly products and methods moving forward.

The demand to create ecologically responsible and healthy kitchens and baths that don't sacrifice style or comfort has reached the mainstream and is spreading to all segments of the industry. The NKBA is committed to helping fellow kitchen and bath professionals understand their options for creating more energy-efficient living spaces. As industry professionals, our responsibility is to use products that are environmentally responsible and share with our customers the importance of sustainability in their kitchen and bath projects.

The National Kitchen & Bath Association is dedicated to green design by educating and updating our members through many programs that support sustainability. The NKBA continues to research the subject, stays active in affairs that affect its member community, and continues to expand its educational programs on this critical topic.

Every member of the NKBA must have a way to stay knowledgeable and current in sustainability, including information on new products, design techniques, and the ways that design can affect our environment. The NKBA is thoroughly engaged in all aspects of green design by keeping our members informed through our website, networking, newsletters, conferences, local chapter events, and a number of professional development courses.

Here at NKBA.org/Green, you'll find more information on sustainable design, including articles, a glossary of green terms, links to related websites, and information on NKBA courses and chapter events that deal specifically with sustainable design. It's my sincere hope that the information you find here will give you the knowledge and inspiration to adopt sustainable products and design into your work.

Sincerely,

Sara Ann Busby, CKD
2008 NKBA President
