Moen: Protecting Our World, One Drop at a Time

Everything we do during our time on this planet impacts future generations. And that includes how we use our resources - particularly water. At Moen Incorporated, we realize the importance of both water conservation and waste reduction. That's why we have been working on programs to protect the environment since 1982, a long-standing commitment that has resulted in industry-leading sustainability practices.

Proof of our efforts is evident in the energy-efficient, environmentally sound solutions we offer for both commercial and residential applications. From metering faucets and flow-optimized showerheads to faucets and flush valves that exceed LEED® requirements, we're continually developing new ideas and innovations to conserve one of our planet's most precious natural resources. Beyond products, Moen Incorporated is also dedicated to improving effective sustainability practices in our processes, such as manufacturing, transportation and procurement.

Moen Incorporated is determined to be the industry leader for outstanding sustainability practices in both products offered and business processes employed. This leadership role extends beyond our doors - we also encourage our suppliers to meet standards of social responsibility.

OUR BRANDS TAKE THE LEED

The U.S. Green Building Council developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ as a nationally accepted benchmark for measuring and documenting green building techniques. The Canada Green Building Council has adapted this system for LEED® Canada

The LEED program awards cumulative credit points for all aspects of green design including water conservation and energy efficiency. One LEED point is credited for a 20% reduction in interior water consumption versus standard fixture requirements. Two LEED points are credited for achieving a 30% reduction. Moen Incorporated is proud to offer many products that earn LEED points.

By January 1, 2009*, Moen Incorporated will transition to flow-optimized aerators on all Moen®, ShowHouse® and Cleveland Faucet Group™ (CFG) bathroom faucets. These aerators are designed to use less water and meet or exceed current LEED requirements without sacrificing performance.

*Specific faucet lines meeting LEED requirements will be available prior to 2009, and our existing flow-optimized aerator kits will remain available for retrofit applications beyond that date.

OUR COMMITMENT

Moen has instituted a program to address all aspects of environmental management. Pollution prevention, renewable energy and other environmental initiatives are a few of the many ways we look to lessen our impact on the Earth.

Highlights of efforts that extend beyond creating efficient products include:

Conservation

Recycling: Moen recycles more than 90% of all metal, scrap and return product and manufacturing by-product (oils and solvents). In addition, glass, toner and printer cartridges, cardboard, plastic bottles and aluminum cans in our facilities are recycled.

Water Usage: In 2008, Moen plans to reduce water consumption by reusing 70% of all water used in product testing. Plus, we've installed Moen water filtration systems in all of our facilities to reduce plastic bottle consumption and waste.

Paper and Packaging: We are dedicated to continuous improvements in packaging and literature production and practices.

Partnerships

Moen is proud to team with the U.S. and Canada Green Building Councils, partnerships designed to conserve the water supply and promote water efficiency. We also work cooperatively with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to comply with conservation guidelines and regulations.

Looking Ahead

At Moen, it's a long-term commitment to embrace sustainability in all facets of our business. Whether developing environmentally friendly products, exploring alternative materials for manufacturing or reducing waste through recycling, we will continuously strive for improvement in all business practices that impact the Earth's natural resources.

DESIGNED FOR OUR CUSTOMERS. MINDFUL OF THE ENVIRONMENT.

As the #1 faucet brand in North America, it is our responsibility to serve as stewards of water resources and reduce the environmental impact of our products while delivering the high level of performance consumers have come to expect from Moen. Here are some of the many Earth friendly products from the Moen Incorporated family of brands: Moen®, ShowHouse®, Moen® Commercial and Cleveland Faucet Group™ (CFG).

Rothbury Suite

In October 2007, Moen launched its first full line of water conserving lavatory faucets - the Rothbury™ suite. Conserving water without sacrificing performance, these faucets feature a 1.5 gallons per minute (gpm)/5.7 litres per minute (lpm) flow rate, which surpasses the LEED® requirement.

Water Filtration

Plastic water bottles are becoming Public Enemy Number One to many environmental agencies around the world. Earth-conscious consumers can turn to Moen filtration options, including our ChoiceFlo™ Filtration system, for clean water without the negative effects of plastic bottles on the environment.

Flow-Optimized Showerheads

A 10-minute shower can use between 25 and 50 gallons (95 -189 litres) of water. Typical high-flow showerhead valves use water at 6 -10 gallons (23 -38 litres) a minute. In fact, Moen flow-optimized showerheads use 30% less water and meet all LEED requirements as well as outperform the standard 2.5 gpm (9.5 lpm) flow rate without sacrificing performance.

Flow-Optimized Aerators

Faucet aerators force air to the water stream to maintain pressure while using 30% less water. In addition to maintaining "wetting effectiveness", all aerators are LEED-certified and restrict flow from the standard 2.2 gpm (8.3 lpm) to 1.5 gpm (5.7 lpm) without sacrificing performance.

MoPact

Our patented MoPACT® common valve system allows consumers to easily change the faucet style without replacing any plumbing. This design reduces consumption of raw materials by reusing the installed valve.

Freehand Sensor Faucets

Ideal for washrooms, locker rooms and other public lavatories, the Moen FreeHand™ series of electronic faucets takes a hands-off approach to craftsmanship. Designed to meet high-volume demands while promoting a clean and hygienic environment, our hands-free models are activated by infrared sensors. Plus, they control water flow for maximum water and energy savings to save money in replacement costs.

Destiny

Destiny™ faucets utilize infrared technology to provide touchless activation. They turn on and off only when needed in order to conserve water. The easy-to-adjust temperature controls are located under the sink to create a clean, contemporary appearance.

Vivid

Vivid™ faucets use a glass dish spout coated with Diamond-Fusion®, a patented nanotechnology that improves and protects the surface of the glass and repels water. In addition to exceeding the LEED requirement with a 1.0 gpm (3.8 lpm) flow rate, the glass coating eliminates water from sticking to the spout, thus promoting water optimization.

Freehand Sensor Flush Valves

Our electronic flush valves for commercial applications control water flow with every flush for maximum water and energy savings. Activated by infrared sensors, our FreeHand™ flush system is environmentally sound and saves money on monthly water bills.

Commercial Metering Faucets

Moen metering faucets for commercial applications are designed to minimize water consumption. These designs limit the operation time of a faucet, thus allowing for a reduction in water used.

Award-Winning Finishes

LifeShine® finishes provide enhanced resistance to abrasion, corrosion and chemical attack to extend the life of consumer products. In addition, LifeShine also offers significant environmental benefits through a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) application technique, which eliminates problematic and wasteful manufacturing processes
