The Winds of Change
During a severe windstorm, a large fir tree fell on the master suite wing of the client’s home. Necessity provided an opportunity to recreate. An outdated 1980s master suite was reshaped and updated. Matching wardrobes were installed with custom storage systems using VG Fir with Jatoba accents. Delineating the closet and vanity areas are unique dresser/vanities that float above cantilevered curved bench seats.
Honed green slate for the countertops help achieve an outdoor ambience, while mirrors that function from both sides float between the counter and ceiling. There are apothecary-style medicine cabinet drawers on either side of the sink for convenient storage. The open shower is detailed with vertical handmade mosaic and porcelain tiles, contrasting the organic pebble shower floor. The colors and materials selected, including slate, pebbles, handmade ceramic tiles, and glass, helped bring a feeling of the outdoors into this comfortable space—a fitting tribute to the untimely and unplanned partial demolition by nature’s force.
